Haslam to compete in Japanese Superbike finale
18/09/2016
Leon Haslam will fly to Japan after his MCE British Superbike duties are finished to take part in the All-Japan Superbike Championship finale riding for the factory Team Green Kawasaki squad and says he expects to decide his 2017 plans in a couple of weeks.
The last race of the series takes place at Suzuka on November 6 and Haslam will re-unite with his Eight-Hours team-mates Akira Yanagawa and Kazuki Watanabe as part of a larger testing programme for the manufacturer.
Haslam hasn’t yet made up his mind about where he will race in 2017 but looks to be favouring the JG Speedfit Kawasaki MCE British Superbike team even though offers have come in from World Superbikes.
“Talks are all happening now and we are really happy with this year with JG Speedfit Kawasaki and obviously there is an interest there on both sides. From my perspective, a second year on the bike would be a big step forward.
“It’s nice to have had a lot of teams from here approach me and I need to iron out an overall package, it’s not just about being on this bike or doing that. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we can sort that out.
“There are a couple of options on the world stage but it is a similar position to last year, it’s nothing very competitive that can challenge for the top three or four so there isn’t a lot of excitement there.
“I am currently doing a lot more for Kawasaki and will do the last round of the All-Japan Superbike Championship at Suzuka.”
