Dear Jonny Towers…whatever it is you’ve been eating for breakfast, the rest of us would love it if you could share. There was absolutely no stopping the Moto Direct boss at Donington Park as he made light work of his Supertwin rivals to grab two wins on Sunday from the back of the grid. After a fun week of japes on social media with TT star Ryan Farquhar, Towers put his money where his mouth is and all but destroyed the opposition. Even penalties could do nothing to stop Mr RST, who proved to be the dominant man on the day.

The pre-race banter kicked-off when Farquhar threw down the gauntlet on Facebook, tagging Towers in a post stating he was hoping to the give ‘the car park racers a run for their money’. This was all Towers needed to turn it into a Battle Royale, with the pair goading each other for fun all week in the run-up.

Farquhar took first blood when he qualified second behind Will Hodgson while it looked like Towers’ race was over when he was sent to the back of the grid for not having a transponder. But it did little to stop him, as he seared through to the front, taking the win from John Simpson as his rival Farquhar joined the Craner Club in a crash early on.

Towers was also running in the 600 Elite class, starting on the front row in dry conditions. But a bit of rain arrived and he hit a patch of track with no grip and crashed out. Thankfully he sustained just superficial damage in a race which had 40 starters and just 14 finishers.

A second Supertwin win followed that afternoon, again from the back of the grid and Towers was hoping to do it all over again on Easter Monday, assuming the threatened storms kept away.

In the end, it became a day for damage limitation as storms – including snow – hit the track on Monday morning. He took a fifth in Supertwin, describing conditions as ‘way out of my comfort zone’ and then another fifth on the 600 as the grids depleted over the course of the day as many simply gave up and went home.

But he ended the day on a high as he took the final Supertwin win ahead of Paul McClung and John Simpson, admitting it was a ‘huge relief’ after a day of such treacherous conditions.
