Giugliano to miss rest of race weekend after crash
18/04/2017
Tyco BMW’s Davide Giugliano will sit out the two MCE British Superbike races at the Brands Hatch Indy track tomorrow, after injuring himself in an earlier free practice crash. The former World Superbike fell at Graham Hill Bend, with sixteen minutes remaining to the opening free practice session on Saturday. The Italian hit the air fencing and fortunately was able to walk away from the incident. But he continued to feel sore and was battered and bruised by the fast crash, and hurt his knee and neck in the process. He was assessed by medical staff at the track this morning, but was still in pain and ended up sitting out FP3 and qualifying this afternoon. Luckily he has not broken any bones. “Davide was just getting to grips with the small circuit, but then drifted a bit off on track and he lost the front,” said team manager Philip Neill at the circuit. “He hit the tyre wall and has a neck and knee injury, and with the neck it was not safe for him to ride.” The Tyco BMW team will have one rider on the starting grid for the double-header tomorrow, and that is Christian Iddon. The Stockport lad went seventh fastest during qualifying and will start on the third row for race one.
