MotoGP Le Mans: Vinales to make decision on his future ‘soon’

Ecstar Suzuki’s Maverick Vinales will make a decision on his MotoGP future ‘as soon as possible’, after reports have emerged linking the Spaniard with a ride on the vacant Movistar Yamaha seat. But he is also being linked to a deal of remaining in the Suzuki garage for another season too.

Vinales stated today that he will make ‘the decision soon’ and admitted that it is going to be very difficult to decide where his future lies in the MotoGP paddock. But he is not the only name that has been linked with Yamaha. There are also rumours making the rounds this week that Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa could make a move to the Movistar outfit in 2017 as well.

Reports have also emerged that Suzuki may have retained the services of the rider for another year too, but Vinales has not made a ‘public’ decision just yet.

“I will make the decision soon. The decision is going to be really difficult but every day I am more clear and finally as soon as possible I will make it [the decision]. I need to think at home when everything is relaxed and it takes time to think and as soon as I can I will think,” said Vinales at the track.

But one thing that is for certain is that Vinales is one happy rider this evening, after clinching his maiden MotoGP podium today at Le Mans with a third place finish, and he has hailed the day as ‘incredible’.

Vinales added: “It is great, and I didn’t have a good start but I felt quite good. I was pushing hard and I was getting my pace when I saw them [Marquez and Dovizioso] crash and I was concentrating.

“It has been many years that Suzuki haven’t been on the podium and so I am happy to make the team’s dream come true. Le Mans has been so successful for me and it motivates me to work so hard. It is an incredible day at Le Mans and today one of my objectives of the season was to make it on to the podium. It was not easy at the start and I tired to concentrate and do my own race, and I did my own pace, and this has motivated us to develop the bike and start to go more fast.

“Dani was closing the gap and I was not pushing on the limit I was trying to keep the situation under control and to give the third to Suzuki, and I was thinking a lot about the Argentina race and I was sure of not making the same mistake.”
