Pedrosa quickest on day one
01/01/1970
Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa picked up where he left off on day one of the second MotoGP test at Sepang, setting the quickest time with reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo a quarter of a second further back.
The Spaniard lapped in 2'01.580, some four-tenths slower than the first day last time out, with Lorenzo on a 2'01.815, although Pedrosa completed the best part of 20 laps more than his compatriot but the day was interrupted by rain just after lunch.
Rookie Marc Marquez was just a tenth behind the Yamaha man on a 2'01.942 while LCR Honda upstart Stefan Bradl bounced nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi back to fifth place as he suffered and electrical problem with the M1 but the pair are lapping within one tenth of each other. Marquez had a small crash at turn eight, saying he just couldn't pick it up on his elbow.
Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow was next along and Alvaro Bautista, on the Gresini Honda in seventh. The top seven were covered by less than a second, which means that Crutchlow is, for the moment, closer to the front.
Both the factory Ducatis managed to make it inside the top ten with Andrea Dovizioso heading Nicky Hayden. The Italian is 1.2s behind Pedrosa with Hayden a further three-tenths in arrears.
Bradley Smith suffered his first MotoGP crash, losing the front at turn seven but he was unharmed and finished the session in tenth place, two seconds off the pace.
Michael Laverty didn't get any track time as his PBM team are working to mate the Magneti Marelli spec-ECU to the Aprilia engine. He will be out tomorrow using the GPMS-built frame and swingarm.
