Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes has dismissed any talk of breaking Steve Plater's 125.808mph newcomer lap record during the first week of TT practice, saying he needs to learn where he is going first and that the North West 200 is so different to the Isle of Man, it didn't help in his preparation.

The Bringelly man will do his first lap of the TT circuit tomorrow evening in the newscomers under the tutelage of rider liaison officer Richard 'Milky' Quayle, who believes Brookes will crack 125mph before the Superbike race.

"Riding at the North West is completely different to the TT. This is still a road race but it is much closer to short circuits, which I am used to. They are different disciplines and I won't be making for Plater's record," said Brookes, speaking to bikesportnews.com

"I have got to find my way around the TT before even thinking about going fast. I haven't ridden it on a race bike yet so there are all sorts of other things to consider before we start wondering about record breaking."

Quayle said: "I expect him to be the fastest newcomer and to do a very professional job. He has been out on the course doing a lot of laps to learn. I’m pretty sure he will be doing a lap at 125mph by the end of practice week. He is aboard the bike he rides every day of the week. He knows it inside out. He’s riding the wheels off it in BSB. He’s mature, knows the job and knows how to work hard to get it sorted."
